The foundation for the development of youth relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan is the Agreement on cooperation in the field of culture, science and technology, education, healthcare, information, sports and tourism of September 19, 1995 and the Agreement of the CIS Member States on cooperation in the field of youth work of November 25, 2005.
In accordance with the Agreement of 1995, Russia and Tajikistan will promote the expansion and strengthening of cooperation through public organizations, including youth. In order to effectively implement the provisions of the Agreement, the relevant ministries, departments and organizations of Russia and Tajikistan may develop and sign interdepartmental agreements, exchange programs and work plans (protocols) of cooperation.
Youth cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan is also carried out as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (the Russian Federation) and the Committee for Youth and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan of April 16, 2019.
The Memorandum provides for the development of cooperation in the field of youth policy in the following priority areas:
- ensuring the participation of youth delegations in the work of international youth conferences, round tables, festivals, exhibitions, camps and other events held by the Agency and the Committee,
- organization of visits of youth delegations to the historical cities of Russia and Tajikistan,
- providing mutual support in organizing and holding youth events in the fields of science, education, entrepreneurship, tourism, information technology, culture, sports and other areas.
The Republic of Tajikistan participates in the development of international youth cooperation through the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
