An international seminar for youth of the CIS Member States on the preservation of historical memory "Memory and lessons of the Second World War" will be held from November 20 to 24, 2023 (the arrival day is November 19, the departure day is November 25) in Moscow.

The seminar is part of the Action Plan for 2023-2024 for the implementation of the Strategy for International Youth Cooperation of the CIS Member States for 2021-2030.

The purpose of the seminar is to involve youth leaders of the CIS Member States in the dialogue on preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, to support their activities aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War.

The tasks:

  • to increase participants' awareness of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, 
  • to exchange experience in conducting events to preserve the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, 
  • to discuss the challenges associated with preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War (including historical revisionism, falsification and manipulation of facts about historical events, war crimes of the Nazis and their collaborators) as well as ways to respond to them, 
  • to create conditions for the regular dialogue between youth leaders of the CIS Member States during discussing issues related to preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, 
  • to support the participants in developing projects to preserve the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War.

The seminar will be attended by 20 participants from the Russian Federation and 20 participants from the CIS Member States whose activities are directly related to the topic of the seminar.

A candidate to participate in the seminar must meet following requirements:

  • to be between 18 and 35 years old, 
  • to have citizenship and reside in one of the CIS Member States, 
  • to be a representative of a youth public organization / a representative of an informal youth association / a representative of a student organization / a representative of a search movement / an employee in the field of state youth policy / a young historian / an employee of a museum or memorial site who is involved in preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War or a young person who has a ready-made project or idea for a project aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, 
  • to be motivated to actively participate in the seminar and actively learn, 
  • to be opened and focused on developing and improving dialogue between youth organizations in the CIS, 
  • to be motivated and able to organize activities and projects after the workshop in collaboration with other participants of the seminar, 
  • to be ready to work to disseminate and increase the knowledge acquired during the seminar, 
  • to be present throughout the seminar and participate in all elements of the program, 
  • to be able to work in Russian.

The seminar is held jointly by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the National Youth Council of Russia and MIREA – Russian Technological University acting as the basic organization of the CIS Member States for working with youth.
