International youth online meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War

On June 26 the international online youth meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War took place on the Zoom platform. The meeting was also held as a part of the 75th anniversary of the UN. The date of its holding was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter.

The purpose was to provide leaders of national, regional and international youth NGOs from different countries and continents with a platform to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Second World War and the 75th anniversary of the UN by analyzing lessons of the past and sharing views on our common future in order to promote youth engagement  in intercultural dialogue, promoting ideas of multilateralism and peaceful coexistence as well as developing joint solutions to overcome global challenges of our time.

Tasks:

  • To discuss the role of intercultural dialogue and international youth cooperation in maintaining peace and security, 
  • To outline principles of multilateralism and peaceful coexistence in order to counter global challenges and sustainable development, 
  • To analyze challenges associated with the preservation of historical memory, 
  • To discuss possibilities of creating a sustainable platform for communication between leaders of international and national organizations from different countries, 
  • To identify opportunities to create conditions for a constant dialogue between young people from different countries about shaping a common future and developing joint solutions.

Participants were 50 people. They were leaders of international and national youth NGOs. Organizations included UNESCAP, Council of Europe Youth Advisory Council, World Youth Assembly, World Federation of Democratic Youth, Asian Youth Council, European Youth Forum, Silk Road International Youth Union, OIC Youth Forum, Pan African Youth Union, Democratic European Youth Community, Asian Youth Peace Network, PACE 48 as well as national youth councils and youth NGOs from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Venezuela, Germany, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israel, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and France.

The event program included a panel discussion and three parallel sessions on the preservation of historical memory, Sustainable Development and peace followed by a presentation of results of each group's work.

Outcomes: As a result of the meeting a number of proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation were made. Among them were the holding of the World Meeting on August 12 on the occasion of the International Youth Day, holding the World Meeting of Leaders of Youth Organizations in Moscow, creation of a stable platform for communication between heads of international and national organizations from different countries. There also creation of the Advisory Youth Council under the UN Security Council, holding a youth summit of the "nuclear powers" (USA, Russia, Great Britain, France, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan) in an expanded format with the participation of youth NGOs from all interested countries were.
