The public association "Belarusian Republican Youth Union" (PA "BRSM") was established on September 6, 2002. It is the largest youth association in the Republic of Belarus.
The organization was created by merging the Public Association "Belarusian Patriotic Youth Union" and the Public Association "Belarusian Youth Union". It is the legal successor of the public associations "Belarusian Patriotic Youth Union", "Belarusian Youth Union", the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Belarus – the Union of Youth of Belarus.
The organization has the status of a republican public association whose activities cover the entire territory of the Republic of Belarus (there are district, city, regional organizations of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union).
The primary organizations of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union have been created in educational institutions, enterprises and in the agro-industrial complex, in units and formations of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, bodies and divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, structural divisions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, in the bodies of the state administration and departments.
The goal of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union is to create conditions for the comprehensive development of young people, to reveal their creative potential, to promote the development of a civil society in the Republic of Belarus based on the patriotic, spiritual and moral values of the Belarusian people.
The priority activities of the organization:
- educating younger generation of an active civic position,
- formation of a healthy lifestyle among young people,
- organization of secondary employment of youth (student brigade movement),
- volunteer movement of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union "Kind Heart",
- assistance in the protection of public law and order (youth squads of law enforcement),
- organization of working of young journalists’ clubs.
One of the main activities of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union is the development of international youth cooperation through the exchange of delegations with other countries in order to establish friendly relations between youth of different countries, exchange experience and joint activities.
Within the framework of bilateral international cooperation, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union develops youth relations between Belarus and the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and China.
Cooperation with Russia is carried out within the framework of partnership with the National Youth Council of Russia, the All-Russian public organization "Russian Union of Youth", the Youth All-Russian public organization "Russian Student Detachments" (RSD). The legal basis for cooperation:
- Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation in the field of youth policy of June 30, 1995
- Agreement of the CIS Member States on cooperation in the field of youth work of November 25, 2005
The Belarusian Republican Youth Union is a permanent member of the Council for Youth Affairs of the CIS Member States.
