Russian-Japanese youth cooperation is carried out in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Japan on the establishment of the Russian-Japanese Commission on Youth Exchanges of March 15, 1999.

The Japanese-Russian Youth Forum is one of the main events of the Russian-Japanese Youth Exchange Plan for 2019 approved by the Russian-Japanese Commission on Youth Exchanges.

The main goal is development of Russian-Japanese youth cooperation.

Key topics of the forum are "What can we do for the world?", "Striving to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals", "The next generation (Society 5.0)", "Development of intercultural dialogue". 

The participants

Students of educational institutions of higher education, young professionals and leaders of youth public associations from Russia and Japan aged 18 to 30 years, interested in the development of Russian-Japanese youth cooperation on the topics of the forum, representatives of organizations assisting the development of Russian-Japanese youth cooperation. In total 69 people participated there. 

The key results

As part of the educational program of the forum at Shinshu University in Matsumoto the participants exchanged experiences and discussed ideas for joint projects on the topics "What can we do for the world?", "Striving to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals", "The next generation (Society 5.0)", "Development of intercultural dialogue". 

The main report from the Russian side was made by SDG Youth Ambassador Yanina Andrushkevich. She noted the importance of the intercultural dialogue between Russia and Japan in the context of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and maintaining global peace for present and future generations, and also presented to the Japanese side the achievements of the "SDG Youth Ambassadors in Russia" Program. 

At the section "Striving to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals" the participants discussed the role of universities and students in the implementation of the SDGs and jointly developed a project for an ideal university "Futurosity" that fully complies with sustainable development standards.

As part of the cultural program the participants visited the Edo-Tokyo Museum, Tokyo Tower, the square in front of the Imperial Palace, Hirayu-Ootaki Waterfall, Hida Dai-Shonyudo Karst Cave, the Museum of the Hida-Takayama Matsuri-no-Mori Festival, Takayama city. 

On the "sidelines of the forum" there was the meeting between the Director of the Institute of Youth Policy and International Relations of RTU MIREA, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Russia G. Petushkov with the leadership of the Japan Seinendan Council. During the negotiations both parties expressed interest in developing cooperation between youth NGOs in Russia and Japan. In particular, the Russian side proposed an exchange of delegations within the framework of study visits for a closer acquaintance with youth policy and youth organizations of Russia and Japan, with the subsequent conclusion of a cooperation agreement and the establishment of the permanent platform for the dialogue between youth public organizations of two countries.
