Youth of the DPRK and Russia: to new heights of cooperation!

From March 9 to 13, 2024 a delegation of the Socialist Patriotic Youth Union of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is on an official visit to Moscow. The delegation arrived in Russia at the invitation of the National Youth Council of Russia. The partner of the meeting is MIREA – Russian Technological University.

On March 11 a meeting of young delegates of the DPRK and the Russian Federation took place at RTU MIREA. The main topic of the discussion was the comprehensive implementation of the agreements of the Russian Federation–DPRK Summit.

The meeting was opened by Grigory Petushkov, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Russia. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the leadership of the DPRK and millions of its citizens for the sincere support of our country in the international arena.

Grigory Petushkov stated that today Russia and the DPRK were increasing cooperation in the field of youth dialogue. On the Russian side youth exchanges with the DPRK are regularly carried out by the National Youth Council.

5 years ago Pyongyang hosted the First International Youth Meeting for Peace and Cooperation with the participation of the leaders of youth associations and young politicians from different countries. The second such meeting will be held as early as 2024.

"This year we are planning another trip of a delegation of representatives of Russian youth organisations to visit our friends from the DPRK. All regular youth exchanges interrupted by the pandemic will resume!" – Grigory Petushkov assured. 

Mun Chhor, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth Union of the DPRK in his response emphasised that the friendship between the two peoples was a true jewel had left to us by the leaders of previous years. Today, under the leadership of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK Comrade Kim Jong Un, these relations have become unbreakable, friendly and strategic. Our organisations support the aspiration of youth to implement the high plans of our leaders.

The Head of the SPYU Central Committee assured that his organisation was ready to expand and strengthen cooperation with the National Youth Council and other Russian youth organisations: "Defending peace, promoting friendship and cohesion is an inviolable position of the foreign policy of our Republic. Long live friendship and solidarity between young people of the DPRK and Russia!"

On the Russian side the participants of the meeting were representatives of the member organisations of the National Youth Council including the Russian Union of Youth, the Russian Union of Rural Youth, the Russian Student Sports Union, the All-Russian Student Rescue Corps, the National Delphic Council of Russia and many others. Specific initiatives such as: to expand cooperation in the sphere of non-professional youth creativity, in agriculture, to expand sports exchanges, to share experience in creating student rescue squads, to participate together in creative competitions, to share experience in holding major festivals were proposed. 

On March 12 the programme of the visit will include meetings in the State Duma and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

As part of the cultural programme the young delegates got acquainted with the exposition of the exhibition "Russia" at VDNH and attended a concert of the Russian National Orchestra at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.

Recall that youth cooperation between Russia and the DPRK is carried out within the framework of the intergovernmental Agreement on Cultural Cooperation of December 26, 1996.
