The decision to establish the BRICS Youth Council was initiated by South Africa in 2023 as part of the country's chairmanship in the BRICS.

Representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sectors of the BRICS countries systematically discuss joint youth projects and programmes and develop practice-oriented solutions.

The meeting on April 17, 2024 was attended by 9 countries including Russia, Brazil, India, South Africa, Egypt, the UAE, Iran and Ethiopia.

The key issue for discussion was the preparation of the pre-programme for the BRICS Youth Summit to be held from July 22 to 26, 2024 in Ulyanovsk.

The interested participants of the BRICS Expert School from Russia will moderate working groups in the areas of the summit's work:

  • Education, science and training
  • Youth entrepreneurship
  • Science, technologies, innovations
  • Youth community work and volunteering
  • Health and Sport
The working groups facilitate the preparation of a collection of initiatives to be included in the final declaration of the BRICS Youth Summit and implemented by young people after the summit.
