The Asian Dialogue – 2024: acceptance of applications has started

The Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and the Institute of Asian and African Studies (IAAS) of Lomonosov Moscow State University have announced the launch of the second scientific and educational programme on the study of current problems of the countries of the East.
The conference will be held from June 26 to 30, 2024 in Moscow.

This year's conference will be devoted to the study of current directions and prospects of Russian-Chinese cooperation as well as the analysis of challenges to China's foreign policy course at the regional and global levels.

The scientific director of the event is Alexei Maslov, the Doctor of History, Professor, Director of IAAS MSU.

The working languages are Russian/English (with simultaneous translation).

The event will include lectures from leading Russian and foreign experts in the field of international relations, seminars, master classes, discussions, practical assignments and a cultural programme.

Experts will be leading government, public and academic figures from Russia, China and South-East Asia.

The central themes of the programme will be:

  • Russia and China as drivers of transformation of the US-centric world order.
  • Pairing Eurasian economic integration initiatives.
  • Actual directions of deepening cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia.
  • Regional challenges and threats to China's foreign policy interests.
  • Strengthening Russian-Chinese partnership in the Arctic zone of Russia.
Representatives of Russian regions and other states aged 18-35 are invited to participate in the conference:
  • researchers in the field of international relations, political scientists, economists, lawyers, historians,
  • students, undergraduates, master's and postgraduates of specialized universities,
  • international journalists,
  • representatives of public organizations dealing with international cooperation, public diplomacy,
  • young diplomats and representatives of state structures.
The group of delegates is formed through a competition.

In order to apply to participate the following are necessary:

1. Registration is done through a personal account on the English version of the Fund's website. If you do not have an account, you need to register first, go to the "My projects" tab, click on the "Create an application" button, then select the competition "The "Asian Dialogue 2024" research and educational programme", click on the "Yes" button and fill in the application fields,

2. Submit an analytical essay of up to 5,000 characters with spaces on one of the following topics:
  • China's Path to Global Leadership: New Challenges and Opportunities for the Modern System of International Relations,
  • Integration Processes in the Greater Mekong Subregion: Prospects for Russia and China,
  • The Role of China and Russia in the Conjugation of "Belt and Road" and "Greater Eurasian Partnership" Initiatives,
  • Regional factors of destabilisation: the problem of transboundary waters, trade wars and information sovereignty,
  • The Future of Arctic Cooperation between Russia and China: New Horizons of Interaction.
3. Write a motivation letter of up to 2000 characters on why you want to participate in the Asian Dialogue 2024,
4. After completing the mandatory fields, click on the "Apply" button

A unique opportunity offered by the programme is a trip to Shenzhen, the PRC. The participants will be engaged in drafting analytical notes on cooperation between Russia and the PRC as well as other thematic areas of the programme. The authors of the best materials will have an opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion at MSU-PPI University in Shenzhen.

The terms of participation:
  • The Fund covers the costs of accommodation in double rooms, meals, cultural programme and travel around Moscow during the event, and provides visa support for all participants.
  • The participants pay for their travel to Moscow (air or rail tickets), visa fee (if it is not possible to issue a humanitarian visa), travel from/to the airport (railway station), as well as PCR-test if necessary.
  • The Fund will pay travel expenses to and from the venue of the event for the three contestants whose work will be recognised as the best.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, May 12, 2024 23:59 (MSC).
