Youth Forum of the United Nations Economic and Social Council starts in New York today

The Forum has been held annually since 2012 at the initiative of the President of the UN Economic and Social Council. It is one of the main platforms for young people to engage in policy discussions at the UN offering their collectively developed ideas, solutions and innovations.

The organizers are the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN Office on Youth in collaboration with the UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD), the UN Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY), the International Coordinating Meeting of Youth Organizations (ICMYO).

The theme of the 2024 Forum is "Strengthening the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: effectively delivering sustainable and innovative solutions".

The forum programme includes:

  • Discussing progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals,
  • Sharing innovative ideas and developing recommendations in preparation for the Summit of the Future to be held under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2024,
  • Exchange of views and ideas to address issues of relevance to youth in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

22.15 (Moscow time) – Plenary session "Engaging Youth in Building Peaceful and Inclusive Societies"
23.30 (Moscow time) – Plenary session "Urban youth leading the fight against climate change, community resilience and peacekeeping initiatives"
