The Russian Students Sports Union (RSSU) is an All-Russian public organization uniting 69 regional branches in 8 federal districts of the Russian Federation. The RSSU was formed in 1993 on the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the the Russian Federation, the State Committee for Sports and Physical Education of the Russian Federation and the Russian Olympic Committee.
The main goal of the RSSU is to assist the state in implementing youth policy strategy through the effective organization of the university sports system in the Russian Federation including the development of international cooperation in this area.
Main goals:
- uniting the efforts of the Union Members and all interested persons in the development of student sports and mass physical culture among youth,
- providing methodological and practical assistance to youth sports organizations including student sports leagues and clubs, sports associations, departments in organizations engaged in educational activities in educational programs of higher and secondary vocational education, and organizations providing sports training,
- improving the organizational and methodological foundations for the training of a sports reserve and highly qualified athletes, providing measures for the preparation and successful performance of Russian student teams in international competitions,
- improvement of physical culture and sports work with students with disabilities,
- ensuring social protection of the rights and interests of students, namely athletes and sports workers, other specialists,
- the fight against the use of doping and other unhealthy means and methods of sports training,
- development and strengthening of relations with student and youth sports organizations of foreign countries, with international student, sports organizations,
- formation by means of physical culture and sports of the personality of the student,
- promotion and popularization of student sports.
The Russian Students Sports Union develops and strengthens ties with foreign student and youth sports organizations, national university sports federations.
The RSSU is the plenipotentiary representative of Russia in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the European University Sports Association (EUSA), an associated Member of the Russian Olympic Committee.
On September 14, 2017 an Agreement on cooperation in the field of youth work was signed between the RSSU and the German Sports Youth (DSJ) association, the key project within the framework of this cooperation is the Russian-German Forum of Organizers of Sports Youth Exchanges.
The RSSU is a permanent Member of the Russian-German Council for Youth Cooperation.
