The All-Russian public organization "Russia-Japan Society" is the successor of the "USSR-Japan Society" created in 1958.

The main goal of the Russia-Japan Society is to promote the establishment, development and strengthening of friendly and good neighborly relations, mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and Japan by expanding bilateral business, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, sports and socio-political ties, introducing Russian and Japanese public with history, culture and other aspects of life of both countries.

The organization has branches in most regions of the Russian Federation which work to develop contacts with Japan at the level of ordinary people.

The Russia-Japan Society is a permanent partner of the Coordination Bureau of Russian-Japanese Youth Exchanges. It provides information support for such projects as the Russian-Japanese Youth Forum and the Japanese-Russian Youth Forum.
