On 21-28 July, 2019 the German town of Duren hosted the III Youth Russian-German Forum of twinned cities which gathered about 60 representatives from both countries.
The youth forum involved designing joint youth projects in social area under the framework of twinned cities partnership relations, as well as promoting youth exchange and interaction between young people of the two countries. This year’s festival motto was “City in motion: Your project is important!”
The Forum was organized concurrently with the XV Russian-German Twinned cities Conference which is biannual and is held in a German or Russian city.
The Participants joined Russian-German teams from the partner cities of Arkhangelsk-Emden, Vladimir-Jena, Irkutsk-Pforzheim, Krasnodar-Karlsruhe, Makhachkala-Hatten/Oldenburg, Mytishchi-Duren, Nizhny Novgorod-Essen, Perm-Duisburg, St. Petersburg-Hamburg, St. Petersburg-Dresden, Yaroslavl-Hanau.
The purpose of the forum is to increase the activity of partners between the cities of the partnership of Russia and Germany, to create an incentive for youth cooperation in the framework of twinning ties between Russia and Germany at the regional and municipal level.
At the opening of the forum, welcoming speeches were made:
- Landrat of district of Düren, Wolfgang Speltchan
- Consul General of the Russian Federation in Bonn, Vladimir Sedykh;
- Director of the Department for Work with Children and Youth of Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth of Germany Thomas Tomer;
- Executive Director and Board member of the German-Russian Forum, Martin Hoffmann.
Head of the Russian national Coordination bureau of Russian-Germany youth exchanges, Dina Sokolova read out a greeting from the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Marina Borovskaya.
According to her, “Youth exchanges between twin cities of Russia and Germany are one of the priority areas of implementation of the intergovernmental Agreement in the field of youth cooperation. It is important to keep a positive experience of cooperation between cities and ensure the continuity of twinning relations. The youth forum of partner cities of Russia and Germany is a good platform for maintaining direct dialogue of youth.”
Executive Director and Board member of the German-Russian Forum, Martin Hoffmann noted the importance of the Youth forum’s contribution to the development of Russian-German relations. Сreative approach in the development of partnership relations between the cities will help young people to move mountains. The dialogue must continue, and the younger generation must take the baton into their own hands and find their own forms of communication and exchange.

The Russian-German Council on youth cooperation was established in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany in December 2004.
